TL;DR

Human nodes, it’s time for your biweekly update—here’s everything you need to know about the latest developments, new events, and exciting updates in the Humanode ecosystem!

First up, we’ve hit an impressive 10 million blocks on the mainnet, secured by 1,500 unique human validators. Not a single token is staked, and no coins are mined—just pure human verification at the core of the network, bypassing capital and computational barriers. Humanode’s protocol places people at the center, challenging traditional models by anchoring security in identity, not wealth. This approach proves that a truly decentralized network can thrive without reliance on financial assets, setting the stage for an inclusive, identity-driven future.

On the development front, the Humanode dev team has been working hard, bringing a series of updates to life. A chain update has shipped to the mainnet, upgrading Substrate to Polkadot v0.9.42. Meanwhile, BotBasher for Telegram is advancing in active development, and the first round of cross-chain biomapping reviews has been completed.

In the realm of community and events, we’re thrilled to announce that the first-ever Humanode IRL conference is coming to Istanbul on December 7-8. This unique event will feature debate games, a DAO simulator, and talks on economic and cybernetic topics. It’s a great chance to connect with fellow Humanodes and explore new ideas together in person. You can join us by joining the whitelist at conference.humanode.io

This Thursday, Humanode is also hosting a Twitter Space with Storacha, where Fares from Humanode and Alex, Storacha’s CPO, will discuss the role of biometrics in securing decentralized storage and explore its impact on the future of storage networks. Tune in on October 31 at 5 PM UTC on Humanode Twitter Spaces for this fascinating conversation.

The cat's out of the bag: the Humanode Ecosystem Funding and Incubation Program is live! We're backing five projects focused on unique human user adoption, each powered by Sybil-resistant tech on our chain. The first project is already feeling the love from human nodes – Catacomb Crawlers, the first Sybil-resistant mobile game launching under Humanode incubation. Behind this pioneering project are Florin Mitu and Alex Carbunariu, who shared their vision for Sybil-resistant gaming in an interview, shedding light on their mission to make gaming more secure and equitable. Humanode’s cryptobiometric technology is helping keep Catacomb Crawlers Sybil-resistant. Bots have long disrupted in-game economies, but by integrating Humanode’s biometric verification, Catacomb Crawlers ensures that each account represents a unique person. Players only verify their identity when necessary, like when accessing the marketplace, leaving gameplay uninterrupted. This approach maintains a seamless experience while creating a secure and Sybil-free environment for fair trade. For those curious about the technology behind this, the latest publication on Humanode’s Sybil-resistant methods offers an in-depth look at how they’re combating fraud in Web3 gaming.

Meanwhile, 2067 - the equilibrium, the first part of The Book of Jack, the 6th chapter, has just been released. This chapter follows Higashimura Jack, a complex figure navigating the shadows of District 6 in post-quake Tokyo. His story weaves together themes of survival, resilience, and ambition as he builds a life in a city rebuilt and repurposed. The narrative continues to explore a dystopian world inspired by Humanode’s vision of decentralized identity and community. If you haven’t started reading yet, now’s a perfect time to catch up on this captivating story.

At last, there’s been a comprehensive comparison between Humanode and The World (formerly Worldcoin). This face-off highlights two very different approaches to decentralized identity. Check it out!

Stay tuned for more updates—exciting developments are in the pipeline, and we can’t wait to share what’s next in the Humanode ecosystem!

Main News

🎉We've reached 10 000 000 blocks on mainnet

Humanode just hit 10 million blocks on mainnet, secured by 1,500 unique humans. Not a single token staked, no coins mined—just pure human verification, powering the network without capital or computational barriers.

This is decentralization with a twist. Humanode’s protocol replaces wealth and machines with people at the core, using biometrics to anchor trust. Every validator is a unique human, creating a network that’s as secure as it is inclusive. It’s a bold new take on consensus, proving identity—not capital—is the key to a truly decentralized future.

🚨 Regular Biometric Servers Update and Reset

There was a reset to the biometrics servers for CVM and biometrics upgrades on October 10th, 2024. This is a regular update scheduled every six months, during which we wipe all the biometric data stored and update our servers. So, if you are a human node, you’ll not lose the longevity of running your node as long as you don't change your substrate address and re-enroll and re-authenticate within 1 to 2 hours after the reset.

On the bright side, this is a perfect opportunity for those who lost their keys or want to change to a Substrate address to run a node on the Humanode network and for those who accidentally connected a wrong Discord account for unique human verification.

The biometric servers have been updated, and have been rebooted.  Please re-enroll and re-authenticate to ensure that your node continues to run seamlessly without missing an epoch.

Keep in mind that you do not need to rotate the keys but you must re-enroll.

Thank you for your cooperation!

🔺Humanode Consensus Mechanism

Our video playlist on the Humanode Consensus Mechanism is now live—a must-watch!

We kick things off by exploring the economic fundamentals behind consensus mechanisms like Proof of Work and Proof of Stake, and why these systems often drift toward centralization. Then, we introduce Humanode’s Proof of Biometric Uniqueness, a game-changing approach where, instead of capital, the system ensures that each person can set up only one node, maintaining the principle of one person = one node = one vote.

🫂 Ecosystem Funding Program

The cat's out of the bag: the Humanode Ecosystem Funding and Incubation Program is live! We're backing five projects focused on unique human user adoption, each powered by Sybil-resistant tech on our chain. The first project is already feeling the love from human nodes, and there’s more to come.

🎮Catacomb Crawlers is launching as the first Sybil-resistant game under Humanode incubation

Catacomb Crawlers, a mobile roguelike survival, will be the first game to launch on the Humanode chain integrating in-game NFTs, marketplace, and utilizing Humanode’s biomapper to combat Sybil attacks on rewards.

Players will only need to prove they are unique real humans when they enter the marketplace to trade tokens for in-game assets or other rewards.

Ready to try Catacomb Crawlers? You can download it here [Google Play, Apple Store].

🔺Meet the Minds Behind Catacomb Crawlers and Their Vision for Sybil Resistance Gaming

The Humanode community and mobile gaming industry have been abuzz with the news of Catacomb Crawlers joining the Humanode ecosystem, bringing the world’s first Sybil-resistant mobile game!

Sure, there’s a lot of focus on how this could change the status quo and if it will become the game that shifts the Web3 space - but before we start speculating, let’s talk about the most important question - who are the people behind Catacomb Crawlers?

So, we simply decided to sit down with Florin Mitu (Co-founder) and Alex Carbunariu (CMO) to find out.

🔺How Humanode's Tech Makes Catacomb Crawlers Game Sybil-Resistant

The gaming world’s got a serious Sybil problem—bots and scammers messing up in-game economies and making it unfair for real, dedicated players. It’s a mess, and it annoys every gamer.

Catacomb Crawlers realizes this problem and says nope, not here. That's why it’s going to be the first game to integrate Humanode's cryptobiometric tech to keep Sybils away. One person, one account. That’s it!

And the best part? You only have to prove you're a unique human when it matters—when you enter the marketplace or trade NFTs. No constant verification, no game interruptions. Just play, have fun, and when you want to trade, you perform a quick private biometric check. Simple as that.

Learn how they plan to keep their marketplace Sybil-free.

🔺2067 -the equilibrium

Last week, the first part of The Book of Jack, the 6th chapter of the Humanode-inspired dystopian novel, 2067 - the equilibrium - written by the Humanode Media Team lead Shannon Higgins, arrived.

Yes, it is time to meet Higashimura Jack, a survivor of the quake that destroyed Tokyo, a survivor of a plot trying to “take him out”, a rare pioneer who had not only lived in the city of Tokyo before the quake, Tokyo as it was being rebuilt, District 5, 3, 9, a darkzone, and then District 6.  He is a journalist, a storyteller, a businessman, a consultant, a builder, a farmer, a visionary, alone, and in general, a “jack of all trades” who never feels like he belongs.  This is his story of where he came from, and where he hopes to go.

Grab your cup of coffee, find a comfortable seat, and dig in.

If you haven't started the journey yet, it's never too late. Begin here: 2067: The Equilibrium.

MISC

The face-off between World (formerly Worldcoin) and Humanode paints a picture of two very different visions for decentralized identity. World’s 15 million users have to find an Orb to get verified, while Humanode’s 500,000 users can jump in from anywhere with just a 3MP camera. Humanode goes hard on security with a 1/80,000 spoofing detection rate, thanks to advanced AI, while World keeps its liveness accuracy a mystery. On decentralization, World is limited by Ethereum Rollup's sequencer controls, while Humanode’s "one human, one node" model is a true grassroots setup with 1,600 bioverified nodes. Governance is another split: World is community-driven but lacks a clear plan, while Humanode is all about equal voting power, without wealth influence. Privacy-wise, both encrypt data, but Humanode ups the game with Confidential Virtual Machines for extra security.

  • With a Nakamoto Coefficient of 341, Humanode is the most decentralized network, far surpassing others like Mina (151), Polkadot (92), Solana (18), and Binance (7).
  • Humanode Dev Content Preference Survey: The team is running a quick survey to learn what kind of content the community developers love and how they can improve it.
  • Humanode invites all of you to join the official Humanode Dev group in Telegram. This group is your hub for connecting with like-minded developers, builders, coders, and innovators, sharing your ideas, and contributing to the world of Humanode’s crypto-biometric technology.
  • Scam alert: there is a Humanode Hub named group with a different handle. Check humanode.io for links.
