Vortex and Formation
In the past few articles about the Vortex, we discussed the underlying principles and philosophy, the Chambers, and the required quorum. In this article, we would like to discuss one of the key components of the Vortex, the Formation.
As you may be aware, Vortex governs the Humanode by determining key parameters through the voting power of human nodes.
Formation is one of the key core components of Vortex. In short, Formation is a special grant-based development system that provides grants, investments, service agreements, and projects to build.
It is dedicated to supporting the Humanode network and all related technologies. When it launches, it will be available for interaction through the Vortex DAO app.
One key feature is that there is no need for participation in governance to partake in Formation. Any bioauthorized human node is allowed to join any project (if the project is looking for people, that is).
Thus, as long as you are bioauthorised and running a validator node (meaning, a human node), you can join Formation to make a grant proposal, or you can apply to become a part of a team that already develops an approved proposal.
Remember, though, proposals by non-human nodes can only reach Formation if one of the governing human nodes decides to nominate them. Such limitations allow us to protect devoted followers and contributors to the Humanode network.
Once the proposal is ready and submitted, Governors upvote and downvote the proposals.
If downvoted, well, it is back to the drawing board. If upvoted funds are sourced from the community and treasury, and the responsible team takes coordinated action to see the proposals implemented properly.
At the time that Formation is launched, it will be set so that 2% of the fees gained through the completed project is allocated back to Formation to act as fuel for future projects. But as things move forward, the Governors of Vortex will/can vote on the % of funds that will be allocated back to the Formation. Future Governors may say 10%! Or, they may say 1.5%. It is all up to what the Governors of Humanode on Vortex decide.
Formation supports a number of different proposal directions.
There are 3 main areas that Formation supports. The following are examples that will give you an idea of what we are envisioning.
Research: Advancing basic and applied research in cryptobiometrics, cryptographic primitives, distributed systems, consensus mechanisms, smart-contract layers, biometric modalities, liveness detection, encrypted search, and matching operations.
Development and Product: Development turns research into software, while Product turns it into user experiences. Formation is primarily interested in technologies that expand the Humanode network, its potential, capabilities, and security, as well as the ecosystem. The range of products could go from Gaming apps, Utility Dapps, to full-blown Web3 services. But remember, this is not the end. Our vision goes beyond this. It can also go from decentralized finance and non-fungible tokens to decentralized courts and real-life voting systems for local or national governments.
Social Good & Community: Formation supports community members to bring awareness to open-source, decentralized networks and biometric technologies, and scale community outreach for the Humanode network. The Formation funds are also used to maintain the network.
Further steps.
One thing that members of projects around the globe usually don’t appreciate is backseat drivers. Yes, if the “project” were a specific company looking for product ideas, then all demands and requests are like a voice from heaven. You take what works, and toss the rest.
In the case of Humanode, yes, we also love to hear ideas and requests from the community. But remember, Vortex is being put in place so that the core team can eventually hand over all governing power to the community. And when it comes to all of the potential that Humanode has, we simply can’t do it alone. We need you.
Thus, we plan to add one more key tool to the Vortex/Formation app.
You see, proposals in general will be sorted into three general categories.
- Full team projects, with predetermined participants.
- The team is partially assembled, with spots that can be filled later from the community.
- No one in the team yet, with all the slots available for the community.
That is why we are developing a special team-assembly procedure in the Vortex DAO app that will allow those whose proposals were approved by Vortex to find passionate professionals to assemble their team from the members of the international Humanode community.
All the proposer will have to do is send a digital offer to any other human node that he thinks is a good fit for his projects. Naturally, if you are looking for someone, it is logical that there will be space for bioauthorised Formation members looking for projects, to list their skills and abilities in the hope of a project finding them.
For the proposal to actually turn into a project. The proposal must also list the public address of the potential members, it should state working objectives and conditions set, and have a smart contract that locks some part of the grant for that person in particular and saves the data onchain.
Once the proposal is approved by Vortex, and the team is built and set with smart contracts signed, the funds can be allocated, and the project will be a go.
In conclusion, Formation will be the tool for those who want to become part of Humanode, or who are part of Humanode, to not only propose “great ideas”, but to find the funds for the said projects, the people (if need be), and get the approval and support to actually make it happen.
No need to wait for the “Dev-team” to free up their schedule for your great idea. If everyone thinks it is a great idea too, you can take charge and make it happen!
